Planning Our Advert.

This is the first draft of our advert. Whilst drawing up this initial idea, we were fully aware of the location we were planning on having as the image in the background, this made it easier to visualise what the completed advert would look like. Our research has told us that having a large bold title and band name is a key element to creating an advert that would stand out and get the audiences attention. From my research I learnt how to create depth of focus by having the camera follow the lines on the road, going into the distance, the trees and pavement. This also makes good composition.

This draft was made with a focus on the composition. We aim for depth to be added by using a cobbled street in the background with a young man (representing Tom) walking on the right. The title and text will be displayed above this, using bold colours as planned which stand out from the background.

This is our thrid draft of our advert, it has been created to test colours, and how they contrast within the page. It also shows us different layouts and allows us to experiment with this. The blue and red of the text is bold and is able to cope with the busy background. The red is linked from the band logo and keeps the same colour scheme within our work. This warm colour also links with the colours of the leaves which show the time of year. This is further developed as in the video is set in winter, showing the progress of the band.

Finished Digipak.

This is our Final Draft of our Digipak.
We have edited all of our images so that they blend well with each other, they all have been drained of colour, changed to grey scale and 4 out of 6 have had a splash of colour added to make the images stand out. We chose not to add colour to the two middle images as the back cover needs to allow the text to stand out, and the middle panel needs to allow the CD to stand out.
The artist name and album title fit in with our overall colour scheme and the text is all similar so it links.
The Digipak also links well as the photographs used within it are all of Tynemouth, where some of our music video will be shot.

Our Logo.

This is our logo for our brand.
We decided to call out band 'Tom & The Tea Pots' as we thought it was original, quirky and fun, because of this we feel as it will attract peoples attention and add a sense of fun to the music industry. Tom is the lead singer in our band and the 'Tea Pots' represent the other people in the band and also the people in the music video, quite like 'Florence and The Machine'.
We chose to illiterate the words so they were catchy and read well when saying the brand name aloud, it also makes the name unforgettable, as it is fun and catchy.
As 'Tea' is generally associated with Britain we thought it would fit well with our English-Indie theme that we are trying to represent.

This is our Record Label logo. We decided that our Digipak need a record label that the artist had been signed by, as professional Digipak's do, so we came up with a quirky name and designed a logo that fitted with our genre of music. It is very simple yet very effective, and I think it works very well.

Planning Our Music Video.

Timings for our music video and initial ideas:

This is a copy of our initial ideas for our music video, we had a brainstorm as a group and came up with places we wanted to film and different scenes we wanted to use. We also listened to our track and divided up the time so we knew what to shoot and how long it had to be. Our track is 2.14 minutes long, so we need footage that lasts that long.

Characters in music video:

Main Boy - Martin Glen

Main Girl (Girl 3 in Script) - Katie Gourley

Girl 1 in Script -  Sarah Rowan

Girl 2 in Script - myself

These are our characters for our music video, as the video is a story about a boy who likes a girl, and he follers her until she likes him too, we decided to get Katie and Martin to be our two main leads, as they are already a couple, we felt that this would make them more relaxed when acting and that it would look better on screen.
We also decided that Sarah and I should have the two mini roles of the other two girls, as this meant less hassle when trying to organise when to film.

Our Storyboard:

This is our storyboard.
We plan to film in Tynemouth and Monkseaton, both of which are small villages by the coast, they both have an old fashioned feel which fits in with our theme and genre of our music video.
We plan to shoot shots in green, leafy areas to promote a healthy, greener way of life, setting a more positive setting for our audience.
This storyboard shows a thumbnail sketch of way happens in each shot/scene. The video starts off with a fire, it then cuts to our male lead burning 2 photographs of 2 different girls, and keeping the third photograph. The video then shows the 3 girls from the photographs at different stages of getting ready in the morning. The video then changes from indoors to outdoors, as the boy sits on a bench, in Victoria Park, as the girl from the photograph he kept walks past him. In the next scene, the girl is sitting at Collingwood Monuent in Tynemouth, reading a book, the boy lead then walks up to her with the same book, she then smiles and walks away. The next scene is of the girl walking around a supermarket, as she turns to pick something up, the boy appears in her trolley, this is to add a sense of humour to our video. In the next scene, the boy is following the girl, without her noticing. After this, the scene shows the girl unclipping washing off the washing line, as she takes down a bed sheet, the boy is standing behind the sheet, the girl smiles at him then walks back into the house. In the next scene the girl is walking her dog and the boy is walking behind her. After this, it cuts to a day in the future, as the girl is standing at the metro she notices the boy on the opposite platform, as the metro goes past she stands, but when the metro disappears, he has gone, this shows the girl is starting to think about the boy, as she's starting to like him. The next scene is of the 3 girls as the each separately walk down the stairs at King Edward's beach. The scene then cuts to the girls sitting round a fire having fun, before the girl from the photograph notices the boy is there as he walks over, the girl then walks over to him and they kiss. The video ends with chinese lanterns going off into the sky.

Advert Reviews.

This is an advert for The Used.
The size of the text for the Band Name is large and capitalised, this attracts the viewers attention and draws their eyes in. The next line down bears the Album Title, the album is called ARTWORK, again, the text is capitalised, which makes it easy to read and stands out, and it fits the same style as the Band Name. The Band Name and the Album Title are both in black, where as the release date is red, the text is on a white background which allows the text to contrast against it. The more important pieces of information are at the top of the advert, and the less important text is smaller and nearer the bottom, drawing your attention to the top of the advert.
On the front cover, the background of the image is black which frames the image in the foreground, marking its importance. The cover is surrounded in a ink like substance which creates a gruesome effect and links the image with the Album Name. The image in the foreground is of someone tattooing themselves with the word 'work', the needle says the word 'Art' spelling out the album name. The image in the foreground fits with the Album Name as tattoos can be classed as 'Art Work'.

This is an advert for Paramore.
The text is all in lower case, which gives the advert a child-like appearance, which ties in with the two porcelain objects in the image. The text is a light colour, grey/white which contrasts against the dark background making it stand out and easy to read. The Single Name font is different to the Band name font, this individualises the band from their new album. The Band Name is always the same font on their album covers and posters, creating a brand logo/name. The text towards the bottom of the page is more subtle due to its size, yet remains the same colour the Band Name, which allows the theme to remain the same.
The image in the foreground is of two porcelain dolls, both of which look like girls and are slightly angel-like. The whiteness of the image suggests purity, which relates to the Single Name as ignorance stands for - unintelligence, inexperience, both characteristics would be found in young girls or angels.

This is an advert for The Stone Roses.
This is a very simple yet effective advert, as it is white text on a black background, creating contrast and making it eye catching. The Band Name is exremeley larger than the rest of the text, catching your eye and making it noticible for the bands fan base. The text below, bearing the Single Name is not as bold as makes the page look more busy and full. The word 'black' is bigger than the rest of the text on that line, it makes it stand out more and draw your eye in. It is also ironic as the word black is white and on a black background. The text is capitalised, which makes it easy to read and stands out.

A Change Of Direction....

We have encountered a few problems when trying to make our website, we do not a have a suitable program to create it in.
We have decided as a group to make a magazine advertisement for the digipak.

Our Advert will be an advert for our Digipak, stating its release date and advertising the band.

Permission & Music Video Lyrics.

We have chose to use a song by Air Traffic, called Charlotte.
"Charlotte" is a song by Bournemouth-based band Air Traffic taken from their debut album, Fractured Life, released in July 2007. "Charlotte" was re-released on March 26, 2007, becoming the band's first proper single.

Song Lyrics:

Don't cry
Just let it pass you by
I'll be by your side
Each and everyday

Let go
You gotta lose control
Teach you how to roll
Never be the same

oooh oooh oooh
oooh oooh oooh

Cause I'm wasted
I'm face down on the floor
Can't take anymore
I gave it all away
Lately I can't find the eyes
Help me realise
That I'm in love
I'm in love, I'm in love

Losing, I'm losing all my fame
And I can't stand the days
That I'm alone
Tell me do you feel the same
And are you glad I came
And can I walk you home?

oooh oooh oooh
oooh oooh oooh

Cause I'm wasted
I'm face down on the floor
Can't take anymore
I gave it all away
Lately I can't find the eyes
Help me realise
That I'm in love
I'm in love, I'm in love

Your face, my place
Your face, my place
Your face, my place at night

Lyric Analysis:

The song is about love, to put it bluntly. The song is sung by a male singer, he is finding 'love' hard to cope with and turns to alcohol. However, we feel that alcohol is a bad representation, and when we come to making our video we will change our story.
This song is going to feature on our Digipak titled 'Hot & Cold', this song, which is about love, fits well with this album title, as the track is named 'Charlotte' which is a girl's name, and she could be hot, in the sense of good looking, or hot towards the male singing about her. On the other hand she could also be cold towards him, which is a polar opposite.
The ideas we have for the music video will fit well with these song lyrics as we want the video to start off with a boy throwing a photograph of a girl into the fire, this shows heat.
Originally, when we were planning our music video, we did not plan for snow, but, as we live in Britain, and the weather is temperamental at the best of times, it did snow and some scenes we filmed show this, this snow within the video, shows cold and therefore links to the album title.

As this is an existing song, we have to ask permission to use it so we don't breach any copyright issues. I asked permission on 2 different websites, so I had more chance of getting a reply.
Unfortunately, we are still awaiting a reply, so we have chose to use the song anyway, as we have requested permission and hope to receive it soon.

Planning Our Website.

The website will have a centered layout, as this looks very professional. The website will show various different images as throughout our questionnaire research this is what people said they would expect to see. The images will have frames to make them stand out and look presentable, the frames will fit within the colour scheme so the same theme runs throughout the Website and the Digipak.
We want to show the music video on the website, along with some small 'behind the scene' clips to get the audience interested and feel like they are involved. We also plan to have links on our website to Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Myspace to attract and get the younger audience involved. These links will be placed at the bottom of the Webpage.

Planning Our Digipak.

This is the original copy of the image we wish to use for our Digipak's Front Cover.
It is an image of our Lead Singer, Tom. It has been taken in Tynemouth where we will shoot most of our music video.

We have edited this image, we adjusted the contrast and the brightness until we were happy with it.
Tom is darker and stands out a bit more, this is what we want as we want the viewer to notice Tom. I really like this photograph, I like the way the path draws your eyes in, as if its leading to somewhere, it has a good composition.

This is the same image we used for the front cover, it has been turned upside down so it fits the layout of the Digipak. We turned the image into grey scale and then drained the colour, altered the contrast and heightened the brightness levels to get the image exactly how we wanted it.

This is the original copy for one of the images we wish to use for the inside of our Digipak. The image is very dark on the whole, but the flash has lit up the person on the left highlighting them and making them stand out.

This is our first edit of the image. We adjusted the brightness and contrast and turned it into grey scale, but we felt like it was still lacking something and could be improved.

We then decided we wanted a splash of colour in the image so we edited it again. This is the final edit of the image, we feel that this is just right, it has a slight bit of colour to attract attention and we feel the grey scale colour scheme fits with the indie/acoustic genre.

This is another image we have decided to use within our Digipak. It is a bit too distant and the composition isn't as good as it could be, so we will edit it until we are happy with it.

This is the final edit of this image, it shows Tom, and his 'Tea Pots'. I like the grey scale effect of this image and the composition is better.

We decided we wanted some colour in this image, to make it fit in with the other images that are also in the Digipak, now that is has a hint of colour in the image it will blend in better with our colour scheme and Digipak as a whole.

This is the original copy of the image we chose to use in our Digipak as the backdrop where the CD goes. We edited it until we were happy with it.

This is the final edit of this image, we altered the contrast and heightened the brightness levels to get this result, we feel that it blends nicely and will  work well within the Digipak as it doesn't stand out too much.

This is a list of song titles that we initially came up with to use in our Digipak. Obviously, Charlotte will feature on the album, but we needed to choose another 9, as when we were doing our research and questionnaires, we found out that people would expect to see on average 10 songs on an album.
The 10 tracks we chose for the final Digipak are:
1. Let The Sun Shine
2. It’s Not Over
3. Charlotte
4. A Lack Of Colour
5. Learning To Fall
6. Message In A Bottle
7. Mardy Bum
8. Last Summer
9. Miserable At Best
10. Makedamnsure

This is a pencil drawing showing our basic outlline of our Digipak. It shows where we wish to place things and what is going on our Digipak.

This is our first draft of our Digipak. It shows where each image goes, and where the text will be.
As this is our first draft, this images will be edited, changed and moved around to fit our theme.

This is the second draft of our Digipak. It shows where each image goes, and where the text will be.
As this is our second draft, most of the images have been changed, edited and tweaked. The band logo has been added too. In our next draft, we will add the finishing touches, have the images edited to the exact way we want them and make sure that everything is in place to make out Digipak look as professional as possible.

This is the third draft of our Digipak. It shows where each image goes, and where the text will be.
As this is our third draft, most of the images have been changed, edited and tweaked to almost the exact way we want them. The band logo has been added too. In our next draft, our final version, we will add the finishing touches, have the images edited to the exact way we want them and make sure that everything is in place to make out Digipak look as professional as possible.
